Take care to choose your words carefully? Well it’s not as important as you think it is. Relax… or can we? Time to get some perspective and get a grip on what really happens when you communicate with others. Here’s the story. In his book Silent Messages, Albert Mehrabian said that when we listen to a speaker the message is conveyed both verbally (what we say) and non-verbally (how we say it). Nothing new with this I hear you say! Well, look at these percentages. The non verbal component can be further divided into visual and vocal components. In Mehrabian’s research he identified exactly how an audience perceives a speaker. And it is likely to different to what you think… Let’s take a look.

I’m feeling a little like a kid in a lolly shop at the moment. The more I blog, the more I read – online – (the more time that slips by – happily!!!!!) and the more I come across new takes on original concepts. It’s refreshing and I’m thoroughly enjoying it. With Albert Mehrabian indicating that 55% of our communication occurs through body language or what the audience sees, it’s important to take a deeper look. And if you have received the middle finger up when driving you will alreaady know the strength and intensity of what can be communicated through obvious and conscious non verbal language. But what about the more unconscious body langauge (like eye contact – or not) we use everytime we communicate with someone?
